Jamie is running for State Senate because she believes that the 17th District deserves an experienced, progressive advocate who can get things done in Harrisburg. As our State Senator, Jamie will be a strong, effective voice on the issues that matter most to our families, including access to quality, affordable health care, strengthening our public schools, preventing gun violence, increasing environmental protections, and protecting a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.
After earning her law degree, Jamie devoted her career to defending consumers and investors from large corporations. Through her work, she recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for everyday people and defined new governance measures to curb corporate wrongdoing. She used that legal experience to start her own law firm to provide accessible legal advice to individuals and small businesses.
For nearly eight years, Jamie has made fair and accessible elections a top priority. Through a fellowship with President Obama’s voter protection campaign, she worked to roll back Pennsylvania’s restrictive voter ID law. This led Jamie to become an expert on election integrity. She headed the largest voter protection coalition in Pennsylvania’s history, created and passed hundreds of municipal resolutions demanding an end to partisan gerrymandering, and helped pass legislation expanding voter access to include no-excuse absentee voting that recently was recently signed into law by Governor Wolf.
Ensuring that there is affordable and accessible quality care for our loved ones is also one of Jamie’s primary concerns. Taking care of her aging father, Jamie has seen firsthand the lack of services available for elderly, sick, and disabled family members. Jamie will improve Pennsylvania’s family care system to provide better resources to support caregivers and make sure our seniors live with dignity as they age.
Pennsylvania’s 17th Senate District lies in the Philadelphia suburbs and includes portions of Delaware and Montgomery counties. It encompasses the boroughs of Bridgeport, Narberth, Norristown, and West Conshohocken, and the townships of Haverford, Radnor, East Norriton, Lower Merion, Plymouth, Upper Merion, and Whitpain.
The 17th District is a solidly Democratic district that voted for Hillary Clinton with 66.9% of the vote in 2016. Because of its strong Democratic leanings, whoever represents this district should be a leading voice on progressive issues in Harrisburg.
With such a short race and a multi-candidate field, Jamie needs your support so she can hit the ground running and demonstrate that she is the strongest alternative to the incumbent, and the best person to lead Pennsylvania into a stronger future.
